The Wellons Energy Solutions is a renewable energy company focused on employing biomass (wood or other biomass fuels) boilers for installation at existing industrial accounts that have historically relied upon green house gas emitting fossil fuels. By employing biomass, customers are able to substantially reduce annual fuel costs by more than 50% while employing a renewable energy strategy that is considered “green house gas” neutral. Projects typically have a payback of less than 3 years and an IRR in excess of 30%. In conjunction with the biomass boilers, Wellons Energy Solutions has formed strategic partnerships with leading steam turbine generator sets to enable a comprehensive co-generation product offering.

Wellons, the parent company of the Wellons Energy Solutions, has provided biomass steam systems since 1965 and has an impeccable track record of success in deploying more than 350 biomass steam plants in North America and Europe. In addition to the steam generation-only projects, Wellons has successfully installed more than 40 cogeneration facilities and brings a long record of success installing power generation equipment.

What is Biomass Energy?
Biomass Energy is a renewable energy technology that focuses on the conversion of biomass material into thermal energy. The marketing approach of the Wellons Energy Solutions is the “re-packaging and repositioning” of a proven technology, namely wood fired boilers. The firm’s marketing focus is on the installation of wood fired boilers into US based manufacturers that utilize more that 10,000 pounds per hour (pph) of steam that have historically relied upon fossil fuels; #2, #6 and natural gas.

Why is this an opportunity?
In the past 5 years, manufacturers in the United States have experienced a 70% increase in their annual cost of producing steam. An excellent example of this is a manufacturing facility located in Raleigh, North Carolina. The customer has seen a 68% increase in their annual cost of producing steam, from $2.5M in 2002 to $4.2M in 2007. Most projects, when combined with the NC Renewable Energy Tax Credit, have a payback of less than 24 months and an IRR exceeding 40%. In addition to significant savings, the installation of biomass boilers is considered green house gas neutral and, depending on the fossil fuel being replaced, can significantly reduce green house gas emissions of CO (19%), SOx (90%) and Nox (22%).

The enticing feature of our approach to the market is that the installations will be "pre-engineered", allowing the firm to rapidly capitalize on the opportunity and sell the solution.
