Career Opportunities: Instrument Design Engineer
|
The qualified candidate will work within a team of electrical, instrument and control engineers designing and building bio-mass fueled energy systems, steam turbine co-generation facilities and lumber drying kilns, both domestically and internationally. This position provides for technical leadership, continuity and communication for Wellons instrument standards and their use on all projects and directly interfaces with mechanical, process and piping engineering, field installation and customer service.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Develop instrument standards, including equipment standards, calibration standards, installation standards, installation drawings and installation kits.
Provide ownership for the project equipment list database.
Actively participate in the development and upkeep of process P&ID's.
Design of instrument controls in compliance to contract and all applicable codes and standards.
Specify instruments for purchase, including sizing valves, orifice plates, transmitters and analytical instruments.
Work with the other members of the Wellons Electrical and Controls group to provide complete project design and installation packages.
Represent Wellons in meetings with customers, consultants, vendors and authorities.
Provide support for start-up of Wellons installations as required.
Provide troubleshooting assistance by phone and on site as necessary.
Attend and provide support to internal and external customers.
Attendance, interaction and communication with all Wellons departments.
Maintain and improve technology of Wellons products.
Maintain and improve standardization of Wellons products.
Implement, maintain and improve Wellons procedures.
Research of new technologies and products to further improve Wellons leading position on the market place.
Promote employee training for improved productivity and quality.
In addition, the candidate must possess solid written and verbal communications skills, as well as being customer focused; knowledge of standard computer programs (Word, Excel), be a self-starter, able to work independently, and work well under pressure and deadlines.
Requirements for the job include, but are not limited to the following:
BSEE or equivalent.
Strong computer skills – MS Office applications and AutoCAD.
Working knowledge of standard wiring techniques - NEC, NFPA.
Relevant experience with motor control, variable frequency drives, PLC architecture, programming and troubleshooting and HMI integration.
Working knowledge of low and medium voltage power distribution.
Experience in Turbine Generator controls desired.
Ability to work well with all members of the organization, from upper management to skilled labor, is a must.
Travel to job sites during design, construction management, commissioning and support is an integral part of this position.
This position would report directly to the Electrical & Controls Engineering Manager.
